Jean-Louis Michon on “The ‘True Man’ : Myth or Reality?”
Video Description
In this video clip, Jean-Louis Michon discusses the concept of “True Man” or “Universal Man,” a concept that is familiar to the esoteric traditions of the world’s great religions. It refers to the state of primordial perfection that a person can attain through spiritual practice and grace. In addition, Dr. Michon includes anecdotes, which are often humorous, about his own spiritual quest and about som remarkable people who may have attained that state and whom he was able to meet during his long life and travels. The late Dr. Jean-Louis Michon (1924-2013) was a French traditionalist writer, editor, translator, Arabist, and artistic consultant who specialized in Islam in North Africa, Islamic art, and Sufism. This video is from Dr. Michon’s presentation at the 2006 conference “Tradition in the Modern World,” which was convened by the traditionalist journal “Sacred Web” in Edmonton, Canada. The conference featured presentations from many of the world’s leading traditionalists/perennialists such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Huston Smith, James S. Cutsinger, Reza Shah-Kazemi, and others. Many presentations from the conference, including this one by Dr. Jean-Louis Michon, are on DVD: “Tradition in the Modern World: Sacred Web 2006 Conference”.
