doxa (δοχα)
(Language: Greek)
Short Description: opinion
Long Description: opinion; in Platonism, a sharp distinction is made between the eternal noetic world of Forms (Ideas, Archetypes) of which knowledge ( gnosis) is possible and the perceptible world of becoming which is only opinable ( doxastos); for Proclus, the perceptible entities are opinable, but true being is an object of intellect (Elements of Theology 123); opinions may be true or false, knowledge only true.
