Kim Jacobs is an award-winning artist and author with a number of children’s books already to her name. Ms. Jacobs has contributed to two books for Wisdom Tales Press (the children’s books imprint of World Wisdom): Most recently, she has retold a Grimm Brothers fairytale under the title Princess Sophie and the Six Swans: A Tale from the Brothers Grimm, and added the illustrations as well. Previously, Ms. Jacobs added the glowing illustrations to the festive fairytale book Princess Rosie’s Rainbows, written by Bette Killion.
Many who see this book without having read her own books such as Cottage Cats: My Companions on the Path to Joy or Celebrate Today, will, however, still recognize Kim’s art. This is because Kim Jacobs has been a professional illustrator for 30 years and her art has appeared in books and magazines and on a wide array of gifts, toys, fine art prints, greeting cards, calendars, and other stationery products. They have sold in the millions throughout the world.
Kim’s website says this about her early influences as an artist:
[Kim] began her illustration journey fascinated by early children’s book and fairy tale illustrators such as Edmund Dulac, Arthur Rackham, and Howard Pyle, and the beautiful watercolors of Swedish artist Carl Larsson. Training herself as a painter, Kim gained insight into color and composition from the Dutch masters of her ancestral home, and practiced by drawing figures from Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.
A look at Kim Jacob’s art reveals the result of these studies: Paintings which are finely crafted, with a master’s grasp of her materials. The spirit behind the technique is also revealed in these paintings, and Wisdom Tales is honored to have Kim Jacob’s as a contributor to our books.
