John Arlee is a Salish traditional spiritual leader and teaches both the Salish language and Salish tribal history at the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, MT. He is the author of Over a Century of Moving to the Drum: Salish Indian Celebrations on the Flathead Reservation (Montana Historical Society Press, 1998), and was instrumental in compiling the book Coyote stories of the Montana Salish Indians (Salish Kootenai College Press and Montana Historical Society Press, 1999). He has also recorded traditional songs on multiple CDs. He lives on the Salish Flathead Reservation in Arlee, Montana.
Mr. Arlee is a contributor to the World Wisdom book Native Spirit: The Sun Dance Way, by Thomas Yellowtail, and edited by Michael Fitzgerald. Film interviews with Mr. Arlee are also included in the documentary films Native Spirit and The Sun Dance Way.
