Short Description: Morning and evening prayers to be performed by the twice-born every day

Long Description: Morning and evening prayers to be performed by the twice-born every day. These consist mainly of ācamana (sipping of water), prāṇāyāma (breath exercises), mārjana (sprinkling oneself), arghya (offering of water to the sun), Gāyatrī-japa and upasthāna (reciting of mantras by way of worship of the sun in the morning and of Varuṇa in the evening). Similar prayers are performed at midday called Mādhyāhnika.
