
Mateus Soares de Azevedo
Mateus Soares de Azevedo is an author, translator, editor, and journalist from Minas Gerais, central Brazil, where he was born in 1959. He studied Journalism at the Catholic University and modern languages at the University of the State of São Paulo, where he now works and lives with his family. He also holds a Masters degree in History of Religions from the University of São Paulo, with a thesis on the topical relevance of the Perennial Philosophy. For many years he worked as a journalist in the international affairs section of major newspapers. He is the author of a number of books and dozens of articles and essays dealing with the importance of traditional religion and spirituality in the contemporary world, some of them translated into English and Spanish. His latest book in English is Alchemy of Love: Sexuality and the Spiritual Life (Sophia Perennis, USA, 2020).
He has contributed articles to Dossier H- Frithjof Schuon (France), Sophia (USA), Sacred Web (Canada), and Ultreia (France). He has also translated books by C.S. Lewis, René Guénon, Frithjof Schuon, Martin Lings, and Rama P. Coomaraswamy, into Portuguese.
Mateus Soares de Azevedo is the editor of the World Wisdom anthology Ye Shall Know The Truth: Christianity And The Perennial Philosophy . He also contributed the essay Sages and Saints of Our Epoch in the Light of the Perennial Philosophy in that volume. He has also co-edited (with Alberto Vasconellos Queiroz) a compilation of the writings of William Stoddart, Remembering in a World of Forgetting: Thoughts on Tradition and Postmodernism.
