Bob Kapoun

Bob Kapoun is an important collector and dealer of Edward S. Curtis photographs in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He collaborated, with Gerald Hausman, on the book The Image Taker: The Selected Stories and Photographs of Edward S. Curtis, employing his extensive knowledge of Curtis’ work with American Indian tribes during the first decades of the twentieth century.

Kapoun is also known for his knowledge of the history and identification of the American trade blanket, a significant cultural artifact of past centuries and of the contact between the white and Indian worlds. His illustrated book Language of the Robe (Peregine Smith Books, Salt Lake City, 1992), written with Charles Lohrmann, identifies and classifies the American trade blanket.

Bob Kapoun and his wife own The Rainbow Man, a gallery and store in Santa Fe which specializes in  Indian and Hispanic arts and crafts.
