Biography of Ramon Shiloh

Ramon Shiloh is an American author, illustrator, and storyteller. He partnered as an illustrator with author and storyteller Gerald Hausman to produce the Wisdom Tales book The Otter, the Spotted Frog & the Great Flood: A Creek Indian Story. The book is a mythical story based in America before humans existed on earth, with animal characters and a great flood that ends with the creation of First Man and First Woman in a very surprising way.

Ramon Shiloh was born in Northern California. His mother, June Le Grand, was a broadcaster and Native storyteller who had a great influence on Ramon and his later career. Shiloh has worked with a number of collaborators to produce books and works in other media. Ramon Shiloh authored and illustrated the children’s book Guidance through an Illustrative Alphabet.

Shiloh’s other activities include support for arts programs related to minority issues. For example, his contributions to Native youth projects include serving as a mentor for the “Young Native Voices Theater Education Project” in Los Angeles. He was honored with a certificate of appreciation as a facilitator and storyteller for the Underground Railroad Research Program titled “A Trail of Tears” in 2000. Shiloh has also worked with Rosa Parks.

Shiloh has produced and directed planetarium shows for the Minolta Planetarium in Cupertino California, for the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center at Balboa Park in San Diego, and for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, Oregon. He has also worked as the Arts & Culture Editor for ColorsNW and illustrated a monthly comic strip titled “Life without Colors.”
